During the summer, I will offer you a list of my available teaching days, and you will need to let me know which days you would like lessons. Summer tuition will be due in full by the first scheduled summer lesson, unless a monthly arrangement is made with me in advance.
Tuition is calculated by the following lesson rates:
$25 for 30 minutes
$35 for 45 minutes
$45 for 60 minutes
Tuition for the 2013-2014 school year (September 3, 2013 – May 30, 2014) will be as follows, paid 9 times September through May:
$97 monthly for 30 minutes
$136 monthly for 45 minutes
$175 monthly for 60 minutes
Feel free to talk with me if you are unsure of the appropriate lesson time. Typically, first year flutists need 30 minutes, second and third year flutists 45 minutes, and fourth year and up 60 minute lessons.
Make-Up Lessons: It is crucial that missed lessons are kept to a minimum, as your tuition reserves your weekly lesson time. One make up lesson for both the fall and spring will be provided to students, in the case of illness (a phone call/text/email in the morning would be most appreciated) or scheduling conflicts with at least 24 hours advance notice. More than one missed lesson during either the fall or spring will be made up at my own discretion, if open times are available. Students who arrive late to their lesson forfeit any missed lesson time. Please pick up your student promptly at the end of their lesson. Any lessons that must be canceled by the teacher will be rescheduled for a mutually convenient time.
Materials: A good flute, in proper working order is an absolute necessity for flute lessons. If you are interested in purchasing either your first flute or a more advanced flute, please speak with me first, as I can give you recommendations and helpful information. In addition to a flute, a metronome, tuner and music stand for practicing at home are required. Sheet music will need to be purchased throughout the year and in a timely manner when assigned.
Practicing: Daily practice is essential to learning and progress. Both students and parents must be committed to making sure the student is prepared for weekly lessons. In general, students should practice daily for a minimum of the length of their weekly lesson time. Beginners should practice 30 minutes daily, intermediate students should practice 45 minutes daily, and advanced students should practice 60 minutes or more daily.
Recitals: A studio recital will be held at least once per year, typically in February/March. A small recital fee and/or accompanist fee is required, and I will provide you the details several weeks in advance. Students are further encouraged to participate in solo and ensemble performances, competitions, and summer festivals. I will try to provide updated information on good opportunities on my website.
Discontinuing Lessons: Please provide at least one week’s notice if lessons are to be discontinued. Remaining monthly tuition will be forfeited if lessons are discontinued before the end of the month.
